What to talk about in a job interview

What to talk about in a job interview (1)

If the manager is not your blood relative or life partner, then interviews on the way to a new job cannot be avoided. For some, this stage resembles another conversation “about yourself” in the “confession” genre. For others, it is comparable to interrogation by an investigator.

All categories have one thing in common: a rare bird knows how to present itself competently. How to properly prepare for a conversation about a job in order to get it?

Rule number 1

Remove unnecessary excitement and fear. Believe me, the boss wants you to pass the interview successfully as much as you do, and he was finally able to find an adequate and intelligent employee so that he would no longer take time for these “castings”.

Rule number 2

Any excess is not justified. Spatial speeches about oneself, as well as a mean “yes / no” will cause hostility and suspicion among the interlocutor.

Rule #3

Don’t talk about your life, talk about useful information for the employer. This category includes:
a) Achievements in education;
b) Professional success;
c) Acquired skills;
d) Choice of company and career goals.

Rule #4

Don’t retell your resume or get distracted. Being in a rock band is not very interesting for an employer who is looking for an employee with programming skills. It’s much more productive to also mention courses that improved your classification than a gold medal at graduation. Don’t list all the conferences you’ve attended. Spend this time on the skills acquired in the past job.

Rule #5

Prepare 2 short sentences about your motivation at work. What do you want to achieve? This question from the employer should not be answered as “get married” and “build a house”, or “earn a lot of money”.

Rule #6

Don’t lie. Your incompetence will show up within a week at the workplace.

Rule #7

Don’t gossip or blame. “Your employees don’t think ..”, “the ex-boss is still a bitch” – this levels your reputation as a professional.
